Types of Hair Loss

Could It Be Androgenic Alopecia? (Male or Female Pattern hair loss)

7/5/2025

Androgenic alopecia is commonly referred to as male or female pattern hair loss. It is the most common cause of gradual hair thinning. It's rooted in a genetic sensitivity of certain hair follicles to normal hormones in the body, especially DHT (dihydrotestosterone).

Understanding the Process

It's In Your DNA

This type of hair loss often runs in families and is influenced by inherited traits.
Hormonal Sensitivity:
While DHT is a normal hormone, some hair follicles are genetically more sensitive to it.

Miniaturization of Hair Follicles

Over Time, these sensitive follicles shrink in size.
Thinner, Shorter Hair:
As follicles shrink, each hair cycle produces finer and shorter strands

Patterned Thinning

Eventually, these follicles may stop producing visible hair, leading to recognizable patterns of hair loss, such as a receding hairline or thinning at the crown.

It's not about having too much hormone, it's about how your follicles respond to the amount you naturally produce. this inherited sensitivity is what drives Androgenic Alopecia.
Clinical studies have shown there are ways to help manage Androgenic Alopecia and support healthy hair regrowth.
